Fox Creek Student Arrested on Narcotics Charge

web posted February 27, 2013

MERRIWETHER – A 17-year-old Fox Creek Charter School student was arrested following a teacher reporting to the administration that the student was "acting suspiciously". After being searched, four pills were found in the student's wallet and the Edgefield County Sheriff's Office was notified. The deputy arrived and took Ryan Stewart Hatch into custody and seized the pills.

According to an incident report, Hatch was found to have two 10 mg Methadone pills and two 30 mg Adderall pills in a clear baggie. Hatch also refused to answer questions by the deputy

Methadone is used in the treatment of chronic pain; opiate withdrawal; pain and belongs to the drug class narcotic analgesics. Risk cannot be ruled out during pregnancy. Methadone 10 mg has a high potential for abuse.

Adderall, or Amphetamine/dextroamphetamine has a high potential for abuse and may be habit-forming if used for a long period of time. Abuse of amphetamine/dextroamphetamine may cause serious heart problems, blood vessel problems, or sudden death.

Hatch was released on Tuesday on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond and turned over to the custody of his parents. A 7 pm curfew was also ordered, unless in the company of his parents.

The felony charge will be handled in General Sessions Court.
