Two Merriwether homes burglarized
web
posted March 1, 2010
MERRIWETHER – At least two Merriwether
families started their weekend off by discovering their homes had been
burglarized. Within hours of each other, a home on Mealing Drive and
Cheves Creek called the Sheriff’s Office to report the crimes on
Friday.
The owner of the Cheves Creek home arrived to find a window in the back
door partially broken, pry marks on the door, and the door kicked in
breaking the doorjamb. The person or persons then searched the house
and stole an undisclosed amount of jewelry and several guns, including
an antique gun. “That was my great-great-grandfather’s gun. That’s the
kind of stuff you can’t replace,” the owner said, describing it as a
Remington Model 25 16-gauge pump shotgun.
In all, eleven guns, assorted jewelry, a smaller flat screen TV, and a
duffle bag were taken.
The theft is believed to have taken place sometime between 0 am and
noon Friday. A total value of the items taken was not available.
Very few details were available on the burglary at a home on Mealing
Drive that took place possibly during the same timeframe and is said to
have been similar.
Both scenes were processed for evidence including fingerprints and
photographs.
Residents are advised to keep their homes secured and to report
suspicious persons or vehicles in you area. Anyone seeing a suspicious
vehicle in the area of these two burglaries Friday morning should call
the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office at 803-278-1625 or 803-637-5337.
