Cause of Death of Man Found Dead "Pending"

web posted March 1, 2014

MERRIWETHER The cause of death of a man found not breathing Thursday at an Eagle Road home remains under investigation. The 34-year-old man was found not breathing around 10:45 pm by one of the tenants, he then called 911. The man was later pronounced dead on the scene by the Edgefield County Corner's Office. According to an incident report released Friday, the man did not live at the home and was brought there by one of the roommates around 3 am.

The roommate told deputies that he brought the Graniteville man to the home because he called and stated he had nowhere to go, the report stated. The roommate left later in the morning and did not return until after the man was found dead. One of the other roommates stated he heard the man say something around 1 pm, but did not check on him until much later into the night.

Found in the room next to the bed was an empty syringe, the report states.

Deputy Coroner David Burnett said Friday that an autopsy did not show a specific cause of death and his office waiting on toxicology results to rule on the death. "Right now it's just pending," Burnett said.

The incident report did not list any drugs found in the bedroom.
