Currytown curve scene of another crash

web posted March 18, 2010
MERRIWETHER – The curve on the 500 block of Currytown Road has claimed another vehicle around 1:20 am Thursday as the driver of a Hyundai Accent rounded the curve traveling southbound and lost control after running off the road. The car rolled several times and landed upright facing northbound. The driver, a young man living in Currytown Station, miraculously walked away without injury.

The car traveled well over 100 yards from the initial point of impact but remained in the roadway as it tumbled. The side airbags deployed protecting the young man, who was also wearing his seatbelt. “The car has a 5-star safety rating,” he said as he spoke to deputies and onlookers who live near the crash scene.

The driver stated he was well exceeding the posted 45 mph speed limit when he entered the curve. Debris and glass covered the roadway exiting the curve. (Left)

One resident living in front of the crash scene stated this was the eighth or ninth crash in the curve. “They never learn”, she said. “I don’t know what it’s going to take to get them to slow down.” The roadway bares the scars of the crashes as do the trees on either side of the curve. One resident noted how many times mailboxes have been replaced. “The last one took out three or four,” he said.

The most recent crash in the curve was on December 5 when three people were ejected and five were injured in a similar scenario.
