Merriwether Fire Department receives gift of Ladder Truck

web posted March 19, 2007

MERRIWETHER – The Merriwether Volunteer Fire Department was putting its new ladder truck through a service check on Saturday. The truck was a gift from a fire department in Wrightsboro, Georgia. “All it cost us was the gas to get it here,” Chief Faye Fulmer said. The truck was received about two weeks ago and underwent an inspection of its hydraulics and other functions.

Atop the ladder is a platform and a water cannon to fight high-rise fires such large homes or apartment buildings. In all Chief Fulmer said the truck was in good shape and that only minor repairs will need to be made. Some of the cables on the ladder system will have to be replaced before the truck can enter service.

The addition of the ladder truck will help reduce the ISO rating of the fire department which will reduce the cost of fire insurance for Merriwether residents.

The truck will also receive a new paint job and official lettering of the Merriwether Volunteer Fire Department before being commissioned.
