Merriwether Fire Dept. Seeks Volunteers for Annual "Clean Up Merriwether" Day

web posted March 20, 2014

MERRIWETHER The Merriwether Fire Department will be holding a Clean Up Merriwether day on Saturday, March 29, and are looking for volunteers to join the firefighters in picking up trash along the roadways in the community. How many roads get cleaned depends on the number of those who volunteer.

The firefighters will target Sweetwater, Murrah, and Mealing Roads first. With additional help they hope to expand the pick up day to include Currytown Road and Springhaven Drive. If the help is available the number of the roads will increase accordingly.

Merriwether Fire Department will be providing grilled hot dogs, hamburgers, and drinks for lunch for the volunteers. Everyone is expected to arrive at the Merriwether Fire Station 3 on Murrah Road between 8 and 8:30 am on the day of the clean-up.

For more information or to agree to volunteer call Station 1 at 803-279-8001. If no one is in the office please leave a message.

MVFD is hoping to have the trash bags donated by the Edgefield County Sheriff's Litter Control, but has not made that request official at this time. To prevent overloading the Merriwether Recycling Center, they are having a dumpster delivered to the fire station to haul away the trash collected.

Old McDonald Fish Camp has donated a case of hotdogs for the event.
