Dog Bites, Injures Elderly Merriwether Man

MERRIWETHER An 89-year-old Merriwether man called the Sheriff's Office after going for a walk down his street for exercise when two dogs from a neighbor's yard charged him, one of them biting him and causing him to fall. the man suffered injuries from the bite and the fall.

The man told a responding deputy that as he walked he saw the two dogs, a small black dog and a large black Labrador run out into the street. The Lab charged the man biting him near his left knee. The man was knocked to the ground by the force of the bite and landed on his right knee, injuring it as well.

The neighbor was not at home at the time of the attack.

The deputy photographed the man's injuries and then went to make contact with the neighbor, who was not at home. According to an incident report released Friday morning, the owner will be charged with domestic animals running at large. Animal Control and DHEC were made aware of the incident.

The man refused to be transported for his injuries.
