Oh Deer
web
posted April 10, 2008
MERRIWETHER – A
Merriwether man and a
friend from Pittsburg Pennsylvania were on their way back from a day at
the Masters when a deer reportedly ran out in front of them on Dock
Drive, just off Delaughter Drive. When the driver tapped his brakes to
avoid hitting the deer on the dirt road the driver lost control of the
Nissan Frontier and flipped the truck.
Neither occupant of the truck was injured in the crash as a result of
both wearing seatbelts.
The new truck, with just over 5,000 miles on the odometer, was said to
be a total loss with extensive damage to the front end and both sides
of the body. Due to the amount of damage the South Carolina Highway
Patrol was called to investigate the crash.
Officers tried in vain to find evidence of a deer crossing the roadway.
A search of the area where the driver stated the deer emerged from and
the area across the road did not reveal any footprints left by a deer
in the area.
