Merriwether Man Remains Unresponsive After Alleged Beating at Home

web posted April 16, 2014

MERRIWETHER It has been over two weeks and the victim of an alleged beating in his home remains on life support at MCG and has yet to awaken. Family members and friends are using social media to keep others posted on his condition and also wish for, "(Wallace) to wake up and tell the police who did this terrible thing to you," one post said in part. Gregory Wallace was found unresponsive in a pool of blood on Sunday March 30 around 9:20 am. It remains unknown how long he was on the floor before being discovered.

Investigators have been working to confirm the whereabouts of possible suspects as the investigation continues. Most of that work has been completed, according to information obtained in the case. Blood evidence is being tested by SLED to see if there are two sources of blood in the home. Those results are not available.

A knife found at the scene has also been processed and is not believed to have been used in the attack as Wallace was not stabbed. His most serious injuries were to his head and chin and he underwent surgery after arriving at the trauma center in Augusta that fateful Sunday morning.

No one is hoping Mr. Wallace regains consciousness more than the investigators working the alleged beating so they can find out exactly what took place. And why.

Nothing was taken from the home and the front door was unlocked. Wallace's wallet was reportedly found near the front door, but was removed by EMS at the time they transported him to the hospital in critical condition. Nothing at this time was reported missing from the wallet. If someone entered the home, burglary was not their motive, available information on evidence indicates.

Edgefield Daily is continuing to follow this case and will report when more information is available.
