Three Merriwether homes burglarized over two-day period

web posted April 24, 2009
MERRIWETHER – Burglars have been busy in the Merriwether area this week, targeting at least three homes between the 1800 and 2500 block of Martintown Road area since Wednesday. The first reported burglary was received just after 4 pm Wednesday on Cannon Mill Drive, located just off Martintown Road. The woman of the house informed the deputy that she found someone had entered her car and dumped out the contents out but stole the pocketbook and wallet. According to incident reports the woman was going to “let it go” until she arrived home after work and noticed a garage shed had also been broken into and called the Sheriff’s Office.

According to the husband, the building contained an unlocked safe which was entered and an undisclosed amount of old coins and a bag of change were taken. Several guns in the safe were moved but left behind. Pair of Serofsky binoculars and tools were also reported missing. A full account of items stolen was not available but early value was placed at $3,450 for the ones confirmed.

Within minutes deputies were called to a second reported burglary, this time on the 2300 block of Martintown Road. When the couple returned to the home tire tracks were seen n the yard and as the husband went to the back door he found it had been forced open and called 911.

Once entering the home it was discovered at least $4,500 worth of property had been stolen, including a .357 caliber Western Marshall blue steel revolver, ammunition, a Hewlett Packard laptop computer and scanner, jewelry, luggage, and videos. The home also sustained approximately $400 in property damage from the door being pried and kicked open.

By Thursday morning another burglary was reported nearby on Martintown Road around 11 am. Investigators were on the scene possessing the home for evidence during the day and no official information was available for this report.

According to investigative reports, evidence has been collected and leads are being followed. Nothing links the crimes together other than their close proximity along the Martintown Road corridor.
