NWTF's Conservation Cup Celebrates 10 Years of Good Times

web posted April 24, 2009
MERRIWETHER – Great spring weather and a well-manicured course greeted participants at the 10th annual NWTF Conservation Cup golf tournament, held April 20 at Mount Vintage Plantation in Merriwether.

Twenty-five four-person teams enjoyed camaraderie and 18 challenging holes of golf during a beautiful South Carolina afternoon. Proceeds from the Conservation Cup benefited Wheelin' Sportsmen NWTF, an outreach program that provides people with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy outdoor fun.

"We had a great time out here on the links today," said golfer Vint Maggs of Evans, Ga. "The NWTF and Mount Vintage Plantation put on a good show for us. It's a beautiful course and a wonderful facility. Thanks to everyone for hosting this event and we'll be sure to come back next year."

Wheelin' Sportsmen NWTF provides all people with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors through local chapter events nationwide. Whether it is shooting, hunting, fishing or archery, there is no limit to the outdoor opportunities Wheelin' Sportsmen NWTF can bring to a person with disabilities who is eager to get outside and participate in an active lifestyle.

A national nonprofit conservation organization that was founded in 1973, the NWTF has worked with wildlife agencies to restore wild turkey populations from 1.3 million wild turkeys in 1973 to nearly 7 million today. Now, NWTF volunteers raise funds and work daily to improve critical wildlife habitat, increase access to public hunting land and introduce new people to the outdoors and hunting.

To date, the NWTF and its partners have spent more than $286 million upholding hunting traditions and conserving nearly 14 million acres of wildlife habitat.

For more information about the NWTF's Conservation Cup, contact Tammy Condrey at (803) 637-3106. For more information about becoming a member of the Wheelin' Sportsmen NWTF program, Click Here.
