Wanted Man Arrested at Checkpoint

web posted May 8, 2014

MERRIWETHER Edgefield County Sheriff's Deputies conducting a safety checkpoint on Gregory Lake Road Tuesday afternoon had an Augusta man pull up in a red truck. When asked for his drivers license the man stated he left it at home. When a records check by his name and date of birth came back, his South Carolina drivers license was suspended "indefinitely". And things just got worse for the driver.

The driver, 37-year-old Shawn Michael Baskin, of Wheeler Road in Augusta, was found to have outstanding warrants in Richmond County and Surfside Public Safety (SC).

He was arrested by Deputies for driving under suspension and booked into custody at the Edgefield County Detention Center where Richmond County authorities placed a "hold" on him to be extradited back to Georgia to face unknown charges. A report released on Wednesday did not state if Surfside Police placed a hold on him as well.

The truck was towed from the scene.
