Accused pot farmers busted in Merriwether web posted May 9, 2007 MERRIWETHER – Three people were arrested early Tuesday morning after Edgefield County Sheriff’s Narcotics Investigators raided a home on Ryan Ranch Road in Merriwether. Sheriff’s Chief Investigator Randy Doran said Narcotics Investigators were acting on information they had obtained that indicated the residents were growing marijuana at the home. When Investigators arrived they in fact found marijuana growing at the residence and arrested Michael Payne, 21, Ashley Payne, 19, and Jason Conard, 27, all of the Ryan Ranch Road address. The marijuana found growing was seized as evidence in the case. Also recovered during the arrest was a .380 pistol that was reported stolen out of Aiken County last week. Michael Payne is facing charges of manufacturing marijuana, child endangerment, and possession of a stolen pistol. Ashley Payne is facing charges of manufacturing marijuana and child endangerment. Mr. Conard is facing charges of manufacturing marijuana, simple possession of marijuana, and child endangerment. All three are being held at the Edgefield County Detention Center as of Tuesday night. Formal charges will be filed on Wednesday. A bond hearing is set to follow. The amount of marijuana seized in the bust was not available. For
