Merriwether to get new restaurant

Edgefielddaily.com
web posted May 16, 2005

Last fall Sportsman’s Bar-b-que closed its doors for good, or so many thought. A new owner and a new management team bring the local eatery back to life in two weeks.

Butch Bone, who also owns Al’s Restaurant in North Augusta, said they will keep the “Sportsman’s Bar-b-que” name but will go beyond the previous owners menu of bar-b-que. “We are going to have bar-b-que, of course, but we’re also going to do a picnic menu as well, fried chicken and items people can stop off and buy on their way to the lake,” he said.

Taking the reins at the new restaurant will be Ron Harris who will manage the eatery, “and a little of everything else,” he said. Harris’s wife Donna will also be a part of the management team.

Mr. Bone said with the new expansion of Sportsman’s Corner to its new 5000 square foot store which will be set back further off the road it will open up visibility of the restaurant. “Right now as you drive by it’s hard to see the building,” he said. Once the present store is torn down it will open up visibility from Martintown Road.

The restaurant will be open Thursday through Sunday with a target opening on May 28th.
