Traffic Stop Leads to Traffic and Drug Charges

web posted May 17, 2014

MERRIWETHER An Edgefield County Sheriff's Deputy on routine patrol spotted a Ford Mustang disregarding a stop sign at Rose Drive and Highway 25 just before 1 am Friday and turned around to conduct a traffic stop. As the deputy caught up to the car he noticed the paper tag was expired and the driver pulled over on Royal Place. When the deputy approached, the female driver said she did not have her drivers license or any paperwork on the car.

When the deputy ran her information, it was found Ashley Danielle Murrell, 30, of Edgefield has a suspended license. The temporary tag was expired and the car had no insurance. At that time she was taken into custody, an incident report states.

When asked it deputies would find anything in the car during a search following the arrest, Murrell told them of a small amount of methamphetamine was under the front driver's seat. It was seized as evidence.

Murrell was charged with Operating Uninsured Vehicle, Driving under suspension, Suspended Vehicle License, Possession Methamphetamine.

The car was towed from the scene after being inventoried.

No court date was available.
