Merriwether thefts continue
web
posted May 18, 2010
MERRIWETHER – Thefts continue in the
Merriwether area with over $5,000 in money and property reported stolen
since Thursday. In one theft a Springlake Court woman
reported two men stealing an air compressor and then waving to her
before driving away.
The woman called the Sheriff’s Office reporting that a white male in
his 20’s wearing a white shirt, blue jeans, and a red bandana loaded
the air compressor into the trunk of a gray or silver compact car
around 4:30. As the man got back into the driver’s seat he waved at the
woman and drove away. A passenger was reported only as being a black
male. The compressor was valued at $200.
Deputies searched the area trying to locate the car but were
unsuccessful.
On Friday afternoon a man on the 800 block of Plantation Point, off
Currytown Road, reported someone entering an unsecured garage and
making off with two gas powered leaf blowers. One was described as a
John Deere BH25 which was yellow and black in color. The second was a
Stihl BG55 blower bearing the serial number 279575939 and was orange
and white in color. The blowers were valued at $350.
Saturday another theft was reported just off Currytown Road, this time
on Phoenix Court. The homeowner reported that someone had entered his
property and made off with a $1,500 Eagle Brand pressure washer with a
Honda motor. According to reports, the man believes the theft took
place between Wednesday and Friday.
Also on Friday, in the very next subdivision on Currytown Road, a
Whispering Woods resident called to report discovering his Toro mower
and attached bag missing. It was also taken from an unsecured garage.
The mower was valued at $300.
A Murrah Road woman reported that their home had been burglarized after
returning and noticing her change jar was missing. As she looked around
she discovered her husband’s change jar was also missing. The total
in change was estimated at $130. However, the woman also reported that
a bank envelope containing $2,500 was taken. According to incident
reports, the couple originally thought they misplaced the money.
The door on the east side of the home was found to be unlocked. There
were no indications of forced entry into the home.
In the Bettis Academy area, a Bettis Academy Road Extension man
reported an air compressor was stolen from his home on Sunday. The man
told
the deputy that he left his home around 5 pm for 30 minutes and when he
returned the compressor was gone. It was valued at $500.
