Silver SUV or “Crossover” suspected in recent Merriwether thefts
web
posted May 25, 2010
MERRIWETHER – A number of thefts of lawn
mowers, air compressors, pressure washers, and other such items are
being linked to a silver newer model SUV or “crossover” vehicle
according to several recent reports and information obtained during the
investigations, Edgefield County Sheriff’s Chief Investigator Randy
Doran said Monday.
The back of the SUV has a “hatchback” that lifts from the bottom to the
top. There is also a common driver, a white male, possibly in his
twenties, with tattoos. The man is usually accompanied by another male
during the crimes. Reports have the accomplice listed as a black male
in one case and a white male in others.
The crimes are taking place mainly in the area of Merriwether from
Sweetwater Road west towards Martintown Road including Martintown Road,
Springhaven Drive, and Currytown Road. The thefts are taking place
during the week while most people are expected to be at work.
Residents are asked to report suspicious activity especially if the
vehicle is a silver or gray SUV or “crossover” type vehicle seen
driving slowly around neighborhoods or in and out of driveways.
It is suggested that you program the Edgefield County Sheriff’s
Dispatch numbers (803) 278-1625 or (803) 637-5337 into your cell phones
as dialing 911 in the Merriwether area could transfer 911 calls to
Columbia County of North Augusta rather than Edgefield County depending
on the cell phone tower that picks up the call.
