Merriwether home found burglarized Tuesday, number of crimes continue to climb

web posted May 27, 2009
MERRIWETHER – Another Merriwether home was found burglarized Tuesday afternoon, this time on the lower end of Sweetwater Road. Deputies were called to the scene around 6 pm and they in turn called for the Forensic Investigator to respond to process the scene. The home was located between the 300 and 600 block of Sweetwater Road.

According to information available the burglars broke into a shed on the property, cut the screens out of all the windows on the back of the house, and then broke out a glass door on the rear of the home to gain entry. A caretaker that is watching the property reported the burglary during a routine check while the owner was away. The last time the property was checked was on Thursday, May 21.

Until the owner can arrive and take an inventory it is unknown what was taken from the home or the shed. The home was described as an upscale.

True to form with countless other burglaries in the Merriwether area the burglary is believed to have taken place during broad daylight when children and parents are at school and work. There were no burglaries reported over the Memorial Day weekend in the area.

Two other burglaries were reported across the county over the weekend. A home on the 400 block of Slide Hill Road in Johnston was burglarized while one of the residents was asleep in the home. When he was awoken by the noise the burglars ran out the back door. They were described only as three back males, two wearing white shirts and one wearing a red shirt.

Stolen from the home were two guns, a 30-30 rifle and a .22 caliber pistol, a Vizio 37” flat screen TV, a laptop, and a cell phone. Total value was listed at $1,552.

A homeowner on Highway 25 north of Edgefield reported Saturday a shed at the property had been broken into and the bandits made off with 12 fishing rod and reels, tackle boxes and assorted tackle, and two black “worm buckets”. The total value of the items was listed at $1,500.
