Teen escapes violent crash with minor injuries

web posted June 4, 2007
MERRIWETHER – A Merriwether teen escaped serious injury Saturday afternoon when he lost control of the Chevrolet Colbalt LT he was driving south on Currytown Road, rolling the car several times. A witness also driving on Currytown Road said the teen passed her at a high rate of speed, “I knew I would see him around the curve,” she said.

The teen rounded the curve on the 500 block of Currytown Road and lost control causing him to strike a deep ditch that sent the car tumbling at least four times for over 300 feet before landing right-side up in a resident’s yard. The car was totaled in the crash.

where the driver lost control

After an initial assessment by EMTs the parents agreed the young man needed to be checked out at the hospital. EMS then transported the young man to MCG Trauma Center. He was not thought to have any serious injuries and was taken as a precautionary measure due to the amount of damage to the car. Wearing his seatbelt prevented grave injury police said.

While deputies were directing traffic around the crash site a young woman driving a Ford Bronco rounded the curve and lost control after slamming on brakes and spun into another ditch. The Bronco did not suffer any damage and was pulled from the ditch by friends that lived nearby. The young woman driving and her passenger were not injured just “shaken up” they said.

The teen driver of the Colbalt was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
