Fishing trip ends with one expensive fish

web posted June 4, 2007
MERRIWETHER – A man returning from fishing overnight at Clarks Hill ended up with one expensive fish. Just before 9 am the man was traveling southbound on Woodlawn Road when he ran off the road on the 300 block and went down a steep embankment before striking a tree and taking out 30 feet of fencing. The Dodge Ram 1500 continued crossing the yard of a home, jumping railroad ties lining the drive, and stopping a short distance away.

The driver was uninjured and said he was not sure how the crash happened, “the next thing I knew I was bouncing across the yard,” he said. Debris from the crash littered the yard but the single fish the man caught, a three pound stripped bass, remained in the back of the truck.

The truck suffered moderate damage to the front end and a busted windshield but was able to be driven from the scene. The South Carolina Highway Patrol cited the driver for driving too fast for conditions in the crash.
