Stolen Truck Recovered, One Arrested, One Sought

web posted June 4, 2014

MERRIWETHER Dispatchers were called regarding a white truck driving recklessly on Thurmond and Woodlawn Roads Tuesday morning. Deputies began searching the area and later found the truck parked at Sportsman's Corner and took one man who claimed to be a passenger into custody. A second man, believed to be the driver was seen running out of the back door of the store and into the nearby woods.

The second man was described as a white male, approximately 6 foot tall and weighing around 200 pounds, and was wearing plaid shorts. He was never located. Deputies believe a third man, who lives on Thurmond Road, may have been in the truck as well.

An investigator was called to process the truck and discovered methamphetamine located in the cab.

Paul D. Wright, of Aiken County, was charged with possession of stolen goods and possession of methamphetamine and booked at the Edgefield County Detention Center. He claimed the driver picked him up while he was walking in Beech Island and did not know the driver's name.

The ignition had been removed from the steering column and at least two radiators were found in the bed of the truck along with tools and a gas can. All evidence was seized and the truck was eventually returned to the owner.
