Rezoning request in Merriwether to have Public Hearing tonight
web
posted June 11, 2009
MERRIWETHER – A Public Hearing will be
held at the Edgefield County Planning Commission on the rezoning of two
parcels of property owned by Hagler Systems on West Five Notch Road and
the corner of Murrah Road. The parcels are currently listed and were
purchased as residential property. Hagler Systems requested to rezone
the two lots as Industrial at last month’s meeting.
The two lots, one across the street from the company’s location and the
second lots adjacent to the business and connecting to Murrah Road,
were bought after the current company purchased the former Batco
building. Past requests for rezoning in the Merriwether has been voted
down consistently by the Edgefield County Council after their
controversial zoning of the area in 2000.
Hagler Systems, according to information available, has no current
plans to expand their operation at this time but is requesting the
zoning change anyway.
Several local residents in the area are fearful of the zoning change
due to the City of North Augusta buying up property in the area in an
effort to expand the town limits well into the Merriwether area.
The Planning Commission will consider the rezoning and offer a
recommendation to the Edgefield County Council.
Those wishing to offer written or oral comments are asked to attend the
meeting which will be held at 6:30 pm tonight at the Edgefield County
Council Chambers on the corner of Railroad and Jeter Street behind the
Edgefield County Courthouse.
You do not have to sign in to offer comments.
