First burglary in three weeks reported Monday
web
posted June 24, 2009
MERRIWETHER – After nearly three weeks of
no burglaries being reported following the arrest of Robert Webber
earlier this month, a report of a burglary was received on Monday
afternoon. When the homeowner arrived home on Thursday after a trip to
the lake he observed the back door open, “but didn’t pay attention to
it and didn’t see anything missing,” incident reports state. However,
when a friend who was still at the lake returned on Monday he reported
over $1,700 in cash, jewelry, and electronics missing.
According to the report, the friend left a “plastic box” containing
$200 in twenty-dollar bills, a pair of 1 1/2 carat diamond earrings,
and Nintendo Wii items at the home on the 500 block of Sweetwater Road
when the group went to the lake.
Incident reports did not indicate any forced entry into the home.
The case is under review by the Investigative Division of the Sheriff’s
Office.
Robert
Webber is still being held at the Edgefield County Detention
Center charged in three burglaries and two attempted burglaries.
Sheriff’s Investigators and Sheriff Dobey have long stated that
Webber
was probably not responsible for the entire rash of burglaries that
plagued the county since late March.
In all, roughly a quarter million dollars worth of guns, cash, jewelry,
tools, electronics, and other property was reported stolen during crime
spree.
Residents are still asked to report suspicious people and vehicles in
their neighborhood.
