Three escape serious injury in roll-over crash

web posted June 25, 2007
MERRIWETHER – A one-car crash left the driver and two passengers with minor injuries Saturday afternoon. A 17-year-old North Augusta teen, his stepfather, and a family friend were returning from a shooting range in Edgefield County when the teen ran off the eastbound side of Martintown Road near High point Drive and struck a road sign, causing him to lose control of the Nissan Pathfinder the three were traveling in.

The sign went under the SUV and embedded in bumper after rising up over the rear axle. The remaining part of the sign folded below the axle (pictured below) causing the rear of the vehicle to lose traction. The SUV slid into the ditch for about forty yards before rolling.

All occupants in the SUV stated they were wearing their seatbelts preventing serious injury. Both passengers received cuts, abrasions, and bruising in the crash and were treated on the scene by Edgefield County EMS. The rear passenger complained of lower back pain but refused being transported to the hospital for further treatment. All three were advised by EMS personnel to seek further medical treatment of their injuries.

The crash blocked the eastbound lane of Martintown Road from 3:45 pm until the scene could be cleared around 5:30 pm. The South Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the crash and cited the 17-year-old driver in the crash.
