Two Merriwether homes report thefts web posted June 26, 2006 MERRIWETHER – Two Merriwether residents reported thefts from their homes over the past week with a total of $1,800 in property being taken from the homes. The first call to the Sheriff’s Office came from a resident on the 400 block of Big Oak Drive, just off Sweetwater Road. The resident told police that his father rented the home to another man about 18 months ago. The man said he stored four tires for a 4-wheeler and a chainfall in a shed at the home and that after the renter moved out he discovered them missing. The man that rented the home denied any knowledge of the theft but an acquaintance told police he purchased the tires and the chainfall from the suspect for a total of $36. The acquaintance said he asked if the items were stolen and the suspect said the items belonged to his brother. The case has been turned over to investigators for follow-up. The total value of the items is listed at $700. The second report came from a resident on the 200 block of Murrah Road. The woman stated she has been absent from the home for about two weeks as repairs were being made to the home by the landlord. When she returned last week her door was open and an Xbox video game and approximately 18 games were missing. The woman told police that her neighbor specifically asked if her child had a game system prior to her departure from the home for the repairs to be made. The games and equipment was valued at $1,100. For
