Two adults, two children injured in Saturday crash

web posted June 28, 2010

MERRIWETHER – A notoriously sharp 90-degree turn on Briggs Road was the scene of another crash that left the woman driver, her two children, and a passenger being immobilized and transported to MCG Hospital in Augusta for treatment of various injuries. The curve shows countless skid marks and recent impacts of several crashes, many of which go unreported or are otherwise minor in nature.

The two elementary aged children were treated first on the scene with one complaining of neck pain and the other with visible facial injuries.

According to the mother, they were traveling on Briggs Road from Martintown Road around 4:30 pm when she slowed down for the curve and hydroplaned. However, the roads were dry and the car crashed through a fence and spun nearly 100 yards into a field before coming to a rest. The male passenger told officers that they slowed to 20 mph before the crash took place.

As Merriwether First Responders and Firefighters were immobilizing the four, a Sheriff’s Deputy located various alcoholic beverages near the scene that were still very cold to the touch. They were seized and turned over to the Highway Patrol who took over the investigation.

All four were said to have been wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

None of those involved suffered serious injury.
