Construction trailers at Fox Creek HS targeted for theft

web posted July 1, 2009
Below: Sheriff's Investigator Curtis Burton dusts for fingerprints
MERRIWETHER – The new Fox Creek Charter high school was the location of a theft on Tuesday when workers for Edgefield Construction discovered two of the storage trailers located on the property had been broken into and called the Sheriff’s Office.

After a deputy arrived and assessed the scene an investigator was called to try to obtain evidence in the theft. Workers said approximately $1,600 in tools were missing and included drills, a skill saw, saws-all, some with ECI inscribed on the tools.

The containers were dusted for fingerprints but obtaining footprints was impossible due to the number of workers walking around the area. No other information on the stolen property was available.

The lock to one of the containers was missing and it was not known if it had been cut or pried open. The lock to the second container appeared to have been pried off as there were pry marks found on the side door of the unit.

The theft was believed to have taken place sometime between Saturday and Tuesday. However, one worker stated being at the location on Monday and did not notice anything out of place but he did not enter either of the containers so he could not say if they had already been tampered with until the tools were found missing.

The case is under investigation.
