Surf’s up, well, at least the water levels Edgefielddaily.com web posted July 11, 2005 The US Army Corps of Engineers has announced that due to heavy rains and an abundance of water they are releasing water to lower the water levels in Clark’s Hill Lake. Due to above normal rainfall in the area the water levels of Lake Hartwell and Clark’s Hill Lake are above the required levels. In order to lower the levels the Thurmond Dam will be releasing about 25,000 cubic feet per second from the power generators. The excess of water will cause higher than normal levels in Big Steven’s Creek and currents could be swifter than normal in the waterway as well as the Savannah River officials warn. The release, according to the US Army Corps of Engineers will last for at least two or three weeks. Boaters are advised to use additional caution while boating in the waterways due to deeper than normal waterways. In Steven’s Creek higher waters could bring trees and logs pushed on shore from earlier high waters into the channel which can cause submerged trees and logs to disable boat motors.
