Merriwether man still missing Edgefielddaily.com web posted July 18, 2005 MERRIWETHER
- Marion
Key, 74, who disappeared last Tuesday night, has still not been found.
His wife, Melba Key, says the family has spent about $350 in gas
placing flyers on the doors of area businesses. Mr. Key was last seen
leaving his job as a greeter at Wal-Mart in North Augusta around 11:00
pm Tuesday night driving a red 1993 Geo Metro with a tow bar on the
front and bearing a handicapped license plate with the numbers 49579.
Anyone who has seen Mr. Key or the car is asked to contact the
Edgefield County Sheriff’s Department at 803-637-5337 or 803-278-1625.Search teams have searched the county to no avail as have local police. Volunteers from the Trenton Airport have also been flying the county looking for the car. Local businesses like Sportsman’s Bar-B-Que and Old MacDonald’s Fish Camp have provided assistance by providing food for the family as have members of Big Stevens Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Key stated Mr. Key has medical problems that require medications, medications he has not had in six days. She stated his doctors have said time is becoming critical as the days pass and Mr. Key is not receiving his medications or his dialysis treatment that was scheduled for last Wednesday. “They said he can go about a week,” without medications Mrs. Key said. The family got a bit of hope on Saturday night when they received a call that someone had reported seeing Mr. Key near the Aiken High School on US 1 and SC 191 on Friday. The family went to the area and searched as well as placing flyers in the area seeking information. The bizarre disappearance has stumped law enforcement agencies in Aiken and Edgefield Counties. A national alert has been issued for Mr. Key. Return to Main Page
