One injured in two car crash

web posted July 19, 2006

MERRIWETHER – Just before 5:00 pm Tuesday afternoon calls of a crash on Martintown Road at the intersection of Springhaven Drive began coming in to dispatchers. Merriwether First Responders arrived at the scene and began treating the occupants of the vehicles. Responding Deputies were also on their way to a crash on Garret Road and another call and began arriving minutes later.

The woman driving a 2006 Honda Odyssey stated she and her daughter were attempting to turn off the eastbound lane of Martintown Road onto Springhaven when the crash took place. Also eastbound on Martintown Road was an 18-year-old Merriwether man driving a Ford Ranger.

The woman said the Ford truck slammed into the rear of her forcing the minivan across the road, through a deep ditch, and then up a small embankment. “It all came as a shock to me,” she stated, “I never saw him coming.” She and her daughter were uninjured in the crash.

The driver of the Ford truck was immobilized and taken to MCG to be checked for injuries. Both of his parents arrived on the scene within minutes and his mother accompanied him in the ambulance to the hospital. His condition was not available at this writing.

The wreck slowed traffic on Martintown Road for about an hour before the vehicles could be removed. Both vehicles received heavy damage.
