Miss a dear, hit a tree

Edgefielddaily.com
web posted July  27, 2005

MERRIWETHER – Briggs Road was the site of another accident on Tuesday. A young woman traveling along Briggs Road stated she swerved to miss a deer and ended up going off the road and striking a tree.

“She said she was only going 45 mph,” Merriwether Fire Chief Faye Fullmer said adding that the driver was not seriously injured. “She was more shaken up than anything,” Fullmer said.

Reports from the South Carolina Highway Patrol were not available at press time.

The Briggs Road area has been the scene of a lot of activity of late with a large tree falling across the road and blocking traffic until it could be removed on Monday and a recent accident in which two cars were chasing each other that resulted in one of them crashing into a large pine tree across the street from Gurosik’s Berry Plantation.

Briggs Road, infamous for a 90 degree turn that is the usual location of accidents, is seeing more accidents on the short stretch of road around the Gurosik’s Berry Plantation where the last three incidents have taken place.
