Victim in Home Invasion Attack Was 16-Year-old Female

web posted August 7, 2014

MERRIWETHER As Edgefield Daily reported Wednesday morning, a home invasion that took place on Martintown Road Tuesday afternoon left the victim with cuts from the attacker, who fled the scene before deputies arrived. As official reports were provided on Wednesday it was learned the victim was a teenage girl home alone. The details in the report painted an even scarier scenario than we were able to report at the time.

According to the incident report, the teen said she was in her room listening to music and walked down the hallway on her way to get a glass of water. As she passed the area near the living room she heard a noise and went to investigate. When she walked into the living room the man hit her in the head with a picture frame, causing a cut to her head and knocking off her glasses.

The girl was able to get up and ran to the bathroom, locked the door and called 911. At the time she told dispatchers that the man was still inside the home. When deputies arrived at the home they observed a door to the sunroom was open. They entered the home and observed several broken picture frames and glass on the floor. They secured the teen and found no one else in the home.

The reports state the teen could only describe her attacker as a black male, medium build and standing around 5' 8" tall. The account of the incident seems to take place in a matter of seconds before the teen was able to escape.

It was reported that the door to the sunroom had been left unlocked and there was no forced entry into the home.

Sheriff's Investigators were actively investigating the case Wednesday, trying to gather more information.
