Vandals leave nearly $12,000 in damage to golf course
web
posted August 19, 2008
MERRIWETHER – Vandals struck the North
Augusta Country Club on Gregory Lake Road over the weekend leaving
almost $12,000 in damages behind. Workers arrived on Sunday morning
around 5:45 to begin work on the golf course and found the shed
containing the golf carts had been broken into and carts were missing.
According to incident reports, one of the larger utility carts was used
to crash through the gate to the golf cart shed, leaving the cart
heavily damaged and the $2,000 gate destroyed.
Another golf cart was stolen and driven down several of the fairways
before reaching the putting green on hole number 3. It was there,
reports indicate, that the person or persons responsible left a Bud
Light beer can and smoked a Marlboro cigarette before damaging the
green, a nearby tee, knocked down signs, and later driving the golf
cart into a pond located on the 14th fairway.
Flags from at least two greens were also thrown into the pond.
A Sheriff’s Investigator was called to the scene and was back
investigating the case on Monday morning. Currently reports did not
list any suspects in the case.
