Sportsman’s Corner hit again Burglar missed by minutes Edgefielddaily.com web posted August 27, 2005 4: 03 AM UPDATED: August 27, 2005 6: 46 PM Edgefield Daily.com was one quarter mile away when the 1 am call went out and when we arrived on the scene from the rear Edgefield County Deputies were pulling up to the front of the store. Review of the surveillance video shows the burglar running across the parking lot towards Woodlawn Road just minutess before we pull into the same area from Woodlawn Rd into the parking lot. It is believed he was hiding behind the dumpster or in the tall grass at the tree line. Within minutes three more deputies and a Highway Patrol Officer arrived to secure the property. Two Deputies walked Woodlawn Road to the Big Steven's Creek Bridge and back and saw no vehicles. Edgefield Daily.com reported no vehicles on the road as we traveled to the scene. The manager was summoned to the store and video footage of the break-in was turned over to investigators. An undisclosed amount of items were taken during the burglary which included a case of beer from the cooler. The individual was in the store for almost seven minutes as he collected his bounty and placed it outside the door before leaving. Deputies gathered evidence and took photos of the scene and answered two alarm calls within a half mile of the store down Woodlawn Road. The alarms turned out to be false and unrelated to the burglary at the store. It does not appear the burglary was the same individual as Tuesday night, though that could not be confirmed. The last burglary scene was left by way of Briggs Road; this time whoever was responsible left going down Woodlawn Road. The man covered his head with a dirty T-shirt and had socks on his hands as gloves and no shoes. The individual may have injured himself entering the store more than once, and again exiting the store the final time. The suspect is said to be a white male, slender build, black hair, possibly with tattoos on his arm or arms. He was wearing a red shirt turned backwards and blue jeans. He should also have a cut to his arm as well. He was familiar with the layout of the store. He knew just where he was going to get just what he was looking for as the video shows. Anyone with information should contact the Edgefield County Sheriff's Office at 803-637-5337 or 803-278-1625. You need not reveal your identity to give information. Edgefield Daily.com will continue to follow the story as it develops. Our earlier report said seconds not minutes. A review of the video shows just three seconds of time, however the tape is only activated by motion so the three seconds were actually a few minutes.
