Second crash at Fox Creek HS this month

web posted August 29, 2006

MERRIWETHER – A collision at the entrance to Fox Creek High School was the second in just three weeks at the location. The area is frequently the site of crashes during the school year. On Monday afternoon around 3:20 two men returning from a day of fishing were approaching the entrance to Fox Creek High School on Martintown Road from the east when a truck in front of them “stopped suddenly to turn in,” to the school the driver said. “We were able to stop in time,” he said, but the car behind him was not as fortunate and slammed into the boat and trailer he was towing at the time.

The driver of the Ford F-150 with the 18-foot boat and trailer did not describe the truck that made the abrupt stop, but said that he was pretty sure he and his passenger were going to get hit and told his passenger to “hang on” just before the impact. The woman, who was also traveling east on Martintown Road skidded a few yards before her Saturn coupe hit the boat and trailer. The car and the boat and trailer were heavily damaged in the crash.

None of the three people involved sustained any injuries; however, the woman driving the Saturn did request to be “checked out” by Edgefield County EMS, who also responded to the scene.

Though Fox Creek High School, an Edgefield County Public School, is located just yards inside the county line, the road is in the North Augusta City limits and the North Augusta Public Safety worked the crash site.

As EdgefieldDaily.com reported on August 8, two Fox Creek students collided at the intersection with heavy damage to both trucks but no injuries were reported as a result of the crash. The number of collisions in that area has sharply increased since the charter school opened two years ago. Property on Short Cut Road, off Stephens Road, has been purchased by the school for a new building.
