MERRIWETHER – In spite of a heavy rain delay, the first USTA sanctioned Mount Vintage Plantation Junior Doubles Tennis Tournament was held at Mount Vintage Plantation in North Augusta, SC on August12th and13th. Participants came from all over South Carolina and Georgia.

The tournament included events for players in 7 different age groups:  Boys 18’s,   Boys and Girls 16’s, 14’s and 12's with a First Match Loser Consolation Tournament. Winners of the boys 18’s, Brian Monahan and Alex Lindburg of Aiken, SC combined with Hannah Chillag of Columbia, SC and Samantha August of Elgin, SC , winners of the girls 16’s, played a Mixed Doubles Exhibition Match. The match was won by Brian and Hannah.

Players enjoyed a BBQ Pool Party hosted by Mt. Vintage Plantation Volunteers and generous sponsors. Match winners and a link to photos of the day can be found on the USTA website at www.usta.com  tournament number 704108206

Parent Mark E. Lett of Columbia commented “Your team hung tough and delivered a thoroughly enjoyable tournament. The weather is out of your control, of course, but the Mount Vintage gang pushed back at Mother Nature with gusto…I know the parents and juniors from Columbia were most impressed and appreciative.
