One
car crash sends woman to MCG
web
posted September 3, 2007
MERRIWETHER – An
Edgefield County woman
was taken to MCG after losing control of her Chevrolet Aveo LS Saturday
night and crashing into a tree line on Sweetwater Road. E911
dispatchers received a call from the woman around 11:45 pm stating the
car was in the trees but she did not know exactly where she was.
Sheriff’s Deputies, EMS, and First Responders converged on the area and
located the woman about a mile north of Big Oak Road.
The woman was complaining of foot and leg pain in addition to an injury
to her forehead when the first emergency personnel arrived. She was
immobilized and placed on a backboard and transported by ambulance to
the MCG Trauma Center for evaluation. Her injures were not considered
severe. The woman was wearing a seatbelt and the airbags in the car did
deploy.
The woman told officers on the scene she was traveling northbound on
Sweetwater Road when a deer ran out in front of her and she swerved to
avoid a collision. When she did she lost control and left the
northbound lane, dropping down an embankment, before stopping facing
southbound at the edge of the tree line.
The car suffered heavy damage in the crash and was towed from the
scene. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
Traffic was restored to normal a little over an hour later.
