Currytown Road burglary total tops $60,000 in stolen goods
web
posted September 9, 2008
MERRIWETHER – As the investigation into a
Sunday morning burglary on Currytown Road continues the total amount of
valuables stolen has topped $60,000, according to recent police
reports. It has also been learned that the alarm company did not notify
the Sheriff’s Office of the burglary, only the homeowners.
The homeowners’ son was contacted by
his father around 1:40 am Sunday
to check on the house after receiving a call of a possible break-in.
The son arrived about twenty minutes later and discovered an open
window and called to report the crime.
Official reports state the burglars not only robbed the home, but also
robbed the pool house during the twenty minutes between the homeowner
being contacted and the son arriving on the scene. In addition to the
listed items available from the initial information provided, several
more were noted when the homeowners returned from out of town that
drove the total beyond the $60,000 mark, including a .357 Smith &
Wesson handgun and gold coins
A small pry bar was found near the door of the pool house that is
believed to have been used to gain entry into the structure. A shovel
was found outside the home and it is believed to have been used to pry
the window to the home open.
Investigators were still actively working the case and leads are still
being followed towards identifying the suspects, believed to number
between two and four people.
