Second Merriwether home reports theft over weekend

web posted September 9, 2008
MERRIWETHER – A second Merriwether home was robbed over the weekend with jewelry and yet another handgun stolen. The Saturday night burglary occurred just before 11 pm on Coronet Drive only three hours before the Currytown Road burglary; however, there are no indications that the two crimes are related.

The woman told Deputies she arrived at her home on the 800 block of Coronet Drive and went to remove her jewelry and place it in her jewelry box and noticed her jewelry missing. Upon further inspection the woman found that a Ruger .357 handgun was taken from a nightstand beside her bed.

The Deputy discovered the person or persons responsible did make a forced entry into the home through a back door.

The crime scene had been contaminated by the homeowner before officers arrived on the scene limiting the amount of evidence able to be collected.

The items taken in the burglary was valued at just over $1,000.
