Third Merriwether home burglarized this week

web posted September 11, 2008
MERRIWETHER – Another Merriwether home has been hit by burglars, this time with the thieves making off with almost $15,000 in goods on Monday night. The homeowners awoke Tuesday morning and discovered the theft. This is the third burglary in the Merriwether area this week with thieves making off with almost $80,000 total in cash, guns, electronics, jewelry, and other household items from the three homes.

According to incident reports, the suspect or suspects first entered a vehicle at the Gregory Lake Road home Monday night and took an Eclipse Mutli-System out of the dash and a Garmin GPS device. The owner said the vehicle was left unlocked overnight.

From there the thefts continued into an open garage where a 17-inch flat screen television, computer monitors and other items were removed. Investigators said the person or persons then went into a loft game room above the garage and continued removing additional household goods. A complete list of the missing items was not available.

The original report listed over $4,000 in stolen items, but further investigation has now increased the total to almost $15,000 investigators said Wednesday.

It is unknown if the recent burglaries are related. There is a suspect in the most recent case but the identity was not released.
