Vandals on mailbox rampage
web
posted September 11, 2008
MERRIWETHER – An all
too familiar string
of vandalisms has been reported with mailboxes being bashed, knocked
down, or damaged in the Merriwether area. Most of the ongoing reports
are in the Murrah Road area but extend to Stephens Road and Woodlawn
Road.
The Sheriff’s Office began getting the reports on Monday from the 700
block of Murrah Road, then the 100 block, and others on the Murrah Road
Extension. Over a half dozen reports have been filed so far and many
damaged mailboxes in the area have not been reported by the owners.
Three mailboxes on Woodlawn Road, already suffering from previous
vandalisms,
were damaged further by being shot with what is believed to be buckshot.
The damage is believed to be talking place late at night.
Deputies have stepped up patrols in the area. Citizens are asked to
report anyone seen damaging mailboxes at once and try to give a vehicle
description and direction of travel if possible.
The total amount of damage so far in the spree is already over $400.
