Merriwether
neighborhood site of recent reported frauds
web
posted September 12, 2007
MERRIWETHER – The 400 block of Big Oak
Drive in Merriwether was the scene of two reported frauds on Monday. At
the present time the two cases appear to be unrelated, however, both
are currently under investigation.
The first report came in around noon on Monday from a resident stating
that an unknown subject had entered the residence and stole several
checks from a box containing unused books of checks. The homeowner was
unsure when the checks were stolen.
Since the theft three checks, totaling $525, have been cashed at a
local truck stop and two were cashed at a check cashing company.
In the second case, reported just hours later, a neighbor told deputies
that he was dismissed from jury duty due to having felony convictions
on his criminal record. The second resident said he has never been
arrested much less convicted of any felony. The convictions, he
reported, were for murder and burglary.
Both cases have been forwarded on to the Investigative Division of the
Sheriff’s Office for further review.
