Moore Road burglaries believed to be connected

web posted September 21, 2007
MERRIWETHER – A series of break-ins in and around Moore Road continues with another resident reporting that their home was broken into and the similarities fit the pattern of several other cases the Sheriff’s Office is investigating. The most recent case involves someone entering the home and leaving the residence locked on departure.

Sheriff’s Investigator Phil Ireland is in charge of the investigation and said they believe the cases are related and they are actively seeking to identify the culprit. The prime target in the break-ins is change stored in containers at the homes and also involved the theft of prescription medicines.

The series of break-ins are all confined to the Moore Road area and have taken place over the last three weeks and mostly during the day. Residents are advised to use their dead bolts to secure their homes when they depart as the thief is prying open doors that are secured only with a standard door lock.

The suspect may be committing the crimes while on foot and neighbors in the area are asked to report any suspicious activity in the community to the Sheriff’s Office at once.

Additional patrols have been placed in the area. Investigator Ireland said they do have suspects in the case but would not elaborate citing the ongoing investigation.
