MERRIWETHER – A two car crash tied up traffic on Martintown Road during rush hour today for over an hour. The rear end collision took place at the entrance to River Hills Subdivision about half a mile east of Big Stevens Creek Baptist Church. Reportedly a Chevy 2500 pick-up truck owned by Tri Star Construction of Edgefield was stopped at the entrance attempting to make a left turn when the Chrysler Sebring convertible topped the hill and could not stop before crashing into the rear of the truck.

The woman driving the Sebring and her daughter were not wearing seatbelts according to rescuers and both were transported to the hospital for minor injuries. “It’s a good thing they had airbags,” one responder said. Two of the three occupants of the pick-up were restrained and the middle passenger was not. He was placed on a backboard and transported to the hospital as well, though his injuries were described as minor as well and the backboard was precautionary.

The impact pushed the truck some fifty to sixty yards down the road before it came to rest further down the hill.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the scene and investigated the crash. Charges were pending the outcome of the investigation.
