Vinny's Pizzeria Burglarized

web posted October 16, 2012

MERRIWETHER – Workers arriving at Vinny's Pizzeria on West Martintown Road Monday afternoon found the main door shattered and called 911 to report the burglary around 2:30 pm. Investigators and the Edgefield County Sheriff's Crime Scene Unit arrived to secure the scene and collect as much evidence as possible. The only thing reported missing were two flat screen TV's that sat above the rear bar area.

The person or persons breaking into the business used a vehicle scissor jack wrapped in a light blue blanket (Below), apparently to muffle the sound of it hitting the glass door, to shatter the glass to gain entry. Once inside they quickly targeted the two flat screen TV's by snatching them from the mounts before making their getaway. A cash register drawer was dusted for fingerprints, although no money was left in the register. A safe was also intact.

The values of the TV's were not available on the scene, however; the owner told investigators over the phone he did have the serial numbers and would provide them at a later time.

According to workers, the alarm was set but did not go off. As Investigators searched the building upon arrival the alarm went off twice as they entered other portions of the building.

A worker was reported to be at the restaurant around 10 am Sunday and did not notice anything out of place. That would indicate the burglary took place between Sunday night and early Monday morning.

Several items were seized as evidence from inside the building, as well as the jack, for further processing by the Sheriff's Forensic Investigator.

Investigators cleared the scene in about an hour and a half. Workers said they intended to open for business for Monday night. A glass company arrived to measure for the replacement glass for the door while the investigation was underway.
