Gas trucks targeted in theft

Edgefielddaily.com
web posted October 19, 2005

MERRIWETHER – A gasoline transport company on Edgefield Road was targeted by unknown persons who made off with several items off of transport trailers valued at more than $2,000.

The Edgefield County Sheriff's Department responded to a call reporting several fittings, drop hoses, and pump hoses were taken from at least three trailers at the company. Two of the hoses taken were four inch drop hoses, one ten feet long and another twenty feet long. The fittings and hoes are marked with the corresponding trailer numbers by stenciling.

Drivers began noticing the equipment missing Monday morning. The terminal manager stated there may be additional items that get reported as more drivers begin checking their equipment. The Sheriff's Department do not have any leads in the case but have started an investigation into the matter.

Due to the dollar amount of the stolen items the crime is considered grand larceny, a felony.
