Identity theft reported in Merriwether Edgefielddaily.com web posted October 20, 2005 MERRIWETHER – A Merriwether woman discovered an identity theft of an internet account Tuesday that had been taking place as far back as July 1 of this year. The Clay Court resident stated that due to an overdrawn PayPal account in the amount of over $500 she had traced the use back to an unusual suspect, her brother. The woman, who was living in Harlem Georgia up until about a month ago, reported the crime to Edgefield County authorities because that is where she was living at the time of the discovery. The woman told Sgt. Robert Velasco that her brother was on federal parole for a conviction on identity theft. The case has been forwarded on to investigators for further investigation. Investigators are said to be looking into the activities of the 39 year old man named as a suspect.
