One injured in early morning crash

web posted October 21, 2009
MERRIWETHER – A Merriwether woman was injured and transported to MCG Wednesday morning after swerving in an attempt to miss a deer and crashed into a culvert around 6:30 am. The crash closed all traffic on Martintown Road as Merriwether Firefighters and EMS worked to extract the woman from the wreckage.

The woman was traveling east on Martintown Road when a deer ran out near the entrance to River Hills subdivision. The woman, who was talking to rescuers, said that was the last thing she remembered. The deer was found lying in the ditch several yards west of the crash.

The Chevrolet Malibu sustained heavy damage to the front and side in the crash. The driver’s side airbag was deployed.

Once the woman was freed from the car and immobilized she was loaded into an ambulance for transport to MCG. She did not appear to have any life-threatening injures but did suffer a laceration to her face.

The roadway was reopened for traffic in about 45 minutes. The SC Highway Patrol in investigating the crash.
