Merriwether man arrested after fleeing traffic stop
web
posted November 12, 2009
MERRIWETHER – A man that jumped from a
small red truck as he approached a swarm of Deputies has been arrested.
According to available information, The Edgefield County Narcotics
Division and deputies were in the process of conducting a drug raid
around 1 am at an unknown Merriwether home when Noe Aquinaga, 26, of
Murrah Forrest Drive, entered the area. A deputy attempted to stop the
vehicle which led to a short chase and Aquinaga jumping from the truck
and running.
Deputies searched the area trying to locate him but were unsuccessful.
A check of the tag on the vehicle came back to his Murrah Forrest
address, although it was registered to a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu, not the
red 1998 GMC Sonoma truck Aquinaga was driving. It was towed from the
scene and remains impounded at an Edgefield wrecker service.
Deputies arrived at Aquinaga’s home around 1 pm Tuesday and took
him into custody without incident. He is currently being held on a
charge of failing to stop for blue lights, however; a custody order has
been placed on him for possible additional charges.
The nature of that charge is unknown at this time.
Information on the drug raid was not available on Wednesday due to the
Sheriff’s Office being closed in the observance of Veterans Day.
