Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest
web posted November 17, 2012
MERRIWETHER – An Edgefield Sheriff's
Deputy on routine patrol on Highway 25 Thursday night spotted a white
Buick speeding in the southbound lane at 78 mph. The deputy turned
around and conducted a traffic stop on the car near Amellia Drive. By
the time the traffic stop was over, the driver was under arrest for
three charges, including a charge for possession of drugs.
At the time of the stop the driver was identified as 22-year-old Tommy
Lee Davis Jr., of Peters Road in Augusta. When asked for his driver's
license Davis presented a Georgia ID stating he did not have a driver's
license. A records check found Davis' license was suspended and was
wanted out of the state of Georgia.
Mr. Davis was asked to step out of the car and was taken into custody
and searched, finding a "grinder" containing what appeared to be
marijuana inside found in his right front pocket.
A search of the car found seven "blunts" believed to contain marijuana
in a cup in the ashtray.
Davis was charged with simple possession of marijuana, speeding 78 in a
55 mph zone, and no South Carolina drivers' license with a court date
of December 19, 2012 at 2 pm.
